In 2019, Crescent Communities and Nuveen Real Estate acquired the 565,000-square-foot tower at one Independence Center with a singular conviction: that Charlotte's most iconic address should be home to charlotte's most alluring and dynamic work space.
More than $30 million in capital has since transformed a 1980s tower into a hospitality-led, mixed-use workplace at the historic intersection of Trade and Tryon — the original commercial heart of Charlotte. The result is an asset purpose-built for how leading companies recruit, retain, and operate today.
The repositioning was guided by Gensler's Global Workplace Study finding that the highest-performing workplaces are defined by experience, human connection, and amenity-rich environments. Every move — from a redesigned Tryon Street arrival, to a curated 25,000 SF retail concourse, to the Monarch Market food hall — was made to drive that thesis.
